Jabber
AMAURA tundra pokémon rock / ice ability / refrigerate level / eight - growl - thunder wave - powder snow - magnet rise | how happy we are today name / Jabber nicknames / None age / Ninety-four years (young adult) gender / Pangender (any pronouns) orientation / Aromantic pansexual the feeling will only escape affiliation / Outlaw occupation / Con artist friends / None foes / None no matter who we blame it on appearance / Jabber is notably short and stubby for their species, particularly in the neck and tail. However, they make up for this by being slightly larger than the average Amaura. Their eyes are a piercing light grey, and their crests are similarly desaturated. The ice crystals on the sides of their body are irregular, but still symmetrical. Like many Amaura, Jabber communicates emotion through the colour of their crests. In contrast, their face usually remains expressionless. (content - pink/yellow; happy - yellow/green; upset - light/dark blue; angry - orange/pink) worn items / Grey Hat - A dark grey hat which they wear at all times. While made of thick, durable cloth, it's taken quite a beating over the years, and some may even wonder if grey was its original colour. when the thrill is gone, it's gone, it's gone nature / Relaxed characteristic / Somewhat vain personality / Jabber is a sly Pokemon with a dry wit and an equally arid sense of humour. They tend to be cold and unemotional, with a strong preference for solid logic over fickle emotion. While they have no problem with spending leisure time, when there's work to be done they refuse to have their time wasted. If there's anything working as an outlaw has tought them, it's that a few seconds can mean the difference between life and death. They don't speak much, but most of what they say is sarcastic or critical. They're tough to disappoint, but they always see room for improvement and won't hesitate to speak up if they believe someone can put more effort into something. That said, they tend to overestimate upper limits, both of themself and others. One of the easiest ways they can get frustrated is when they fail their own expectations. They've taught themself not to rely on others, and as such doesn't care a lot about what they do or think... until it comes down to finding out how they tick. They're fascinated by the way the mind works and love to play with it, much to the chagrin of anyone they come across. More than anything they love psychological warfare, both messing with ideas to implement it and trying to pick out when it's being used and how. Propaganda? Awesome. Reverse psychology? Nice. Subtle half-truths? Keep going, they'll have fun trying to decipher them. Sometimes they forget that the people using such tactics probably aren't trying to please them. Despite the fact that they could probably control others or resist control if they tried hard enough with their knowledge of the mind, they really just don't care unless it's a matter of business. Jabber is apathetic about most things, and as long as you show them at least a little bit of respect they don't mind what you do to them... but you'll be in for it if you touch their hat. It's beaten up enough as it is, they're not about to let you make it worse. They do tend to get spooked when they see movement out of the corner of their eye, though. It wouldn't be a lie to say that they're arrogant, though vain would be a much better word. They take excellent care of their appearance and it's easy to gain their favour by flattery, not that they need your opinion to make them feel good about themself thank-you-very-much. They do have a high self esteem, but it's always nice to know other people appreciate their natural beauty. Among all these unlikeable traits, they do hold a secret weapon. Put up with them for long enough and they're guaranteed to get attached to you, regardless of your personality. Once you've reached that stage, not only are they arrogant and cold, but they're overprotective and borderline parental. They often try to hide how soft they are, but fail miserably at it. concrete rubble for concrete dreams history / Jabber was born in the depths of a long gone mystery dungeon to their parents, an Aurorus and a Bastiodon. Much of their childhood was spent wandering along with their herd, simply surviving in the freezing caverns of their birth along with many others of their species. Mindless, useless survival. If they had known any better, they would have resented it. It wasn't until an exploration team stumbled across their little world that they even considered there could be more to life. The larger Aurorus of the herd were quick to send the group packing, but the incident haunted their memories for the next month. What kind of Pokemon were those? What were those strange objects they had with them? How had they vanished with such a bright flash? Finally, they decided to claw their way to the end of the dungeon with a grim determination they had never felt before, nor would ever feel again. The blinding sunlight was nothing like the dim lights of their own crests, the searing heat the antithesis of their home. It nearly drove them back before they decided they had come this far, they'd best keep going. They weren't so sure they could make it back home at this point anyway. And so, after wandering blindly for a few days, Jabber set their eyes on civilization for the first time. Bewildered but curious, they blundered into the small town and made a mess of things before some of the town officials stopped them. After a failed attempt at communication, a kindly old Lapras offered to take them in and teach them to be civil. After many years passed with their mentor, all traces of the wild in Jabber were gone. However, the Lapras soon passed away of old age. They did not think of it as a particularly sad event - it was simply the way things were - but they will never forget the kindness they had been shown. By this time, Jabber was well aware of the existence of the local guild, in no small part thanks to the numerous flyers hung up around the town. The gaudy building it was housed in didn't hurt, either; it was enough to catch their fancy, and they decided, why not? They sure did seem desparate for members. Unfortunately, it turned out that guild life was not suited for them, and they spent most of their time avoiding missions and simply taking advantage of the shelter. A fleeting two years of their lifespan were enough to tell them they had no business being an explorer; the only reason why they didn't quit was because they got free food and a free room for all the work they didn't do. Indeed, they were surprised they weren't kicked out, but rather managed to stick around until the guild disbanded entirely. You see, two years after they joined, time fell still in their hometown. The chaos was immeasurable, and soon Pokemon began to hoard whatever resources they could find, leaving a select few with survival and the rest with either bargaining or thievery. Jabber got the shorter end of the stick and did what they had to to survive. Which they eventually realized was... fun. Not to mention they were good at it. Lies slipped off their tongue with ease and they wove webs nearly anyone could believe, easily convincing their victims that they were getting the better end of a deal and then slipping off with more than they had come with. Rather than spending the Time of Darkness in fear, they spent it in joy. The whole time thing was pretty dreary - really, they got it - but at least they were having fun with it. They never got rid of the occupation after time resumed, seeing no reason to. By this time they were doing it more out of pleasure than out of necessity anyways. They haven't stopped since. grains of sand swimming in the sea gallery / No art currently passing trains, all the passing trees theme songs / Sooner or Later; Chase It!; Fake Handshakes, Earnest Smiles text colour / #0086bb speech patterns / Speaks in concise sentences.
