Mais la mécanique du monde eut tôt fait de devenir folle. Ils oublièrent leur joie pour sombrer dans une spirale de peur et de stupides inquiétudes. Ils n'étaient désormais...

Quant à l'oiseau de feu, il pleurait seul sur son trone, triste de l'oubli dans lequel les homes l'avaient plongé. Ils n'avaient temps désormais que pour leurs soucis.

Alors l'oiseau de feu devint chat, et le chat devint le maitre. Et, emporté par sa colère et sa tristesse il fit pleuvoir sur ses sujets une tempête d'esprits néfastes. Sa folie l'aveuglait.

Et pendant que les spectres détruisaient pour lui le monde qu'il avait lui-même créé, il se réfugia au sommet de sa plus magnifique création, la grande bibliothèque.

Il ne lui restait qu'à attendre le purificateur, l'homme qui allait se lever pour le détruire. Car au fond de lui, il le savait. Ce qu'il faisait était mal.
